Key Events
End-to-end
Unconvincing
That’s a big chance. Options either side of him on the counter, Salah goes for glory and Neuer unconvincingly keeps it out.
Salah stings Neuer's gloves
Chance for a Liverpool counter following a Bayern corner.
Mane delays passing but it falls kindly to Salah.
Milner bursts down the left and Alexander-Arnold does the same on his right, but the Egyptian goes it alone before fizzing a shot at goal... Neuer parries away.
Telling off
Mane gets a telling off for following through with his studs on Thiago.
Back underway
And we’re back underway! Dejan Lovren and Kingsley Coman were both warming up intensely at the break.
Are you not entertained?
Well, that was pretty entertaining.
Neither team are hitting the heights - it’s all a bit too nervy for that - but Liverpool won’t be happy they conceded a sloppy goal just at the moment when they appeared well on top thanks to that Mane opener.
Still, 1-1 is better than 0-0. Means we know what to expect from Bayern in the second half.
'A goal of the highest quality'
Let’s just take a moment to appreciate that Sadio Mane goal again. Michael Owen loved it.
Brilliant. Absolutely everything to do with this goal was. I know Van Dijk plays a nice ball but everything nice about this goal was Mane. He pulls really wide to give himself as much space as possible to run into.
Yes, part of it is that the goalkeeper had a rush of blood but he was aware to that and he was able to take it to one side and dink it over him. But just look at the width. They’re keeping the width, leaving as much space as possible.
Just notice now - he points to where he wants - but notice when he actually looks at the ball it’s right at the end. The ball’s only three or four yards away from him when he actually sees the ball for the first time and let me tell you, when the ball is coming over your shoulder like that for you to just see it and pick it up that flight of the ball - and not only that, but to take a touch as perfect - it’s a goal of the highest quality.
And even that, the awareness of what’s around him and then the coolness after all of that to dink it over, it’s a finish of the highest quality.
Half-Time Ratings
Alisson Becker 7
Clutched one from Lewandowski and had no chance for the goal.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 7
Given a real test by Ribery, particularly with Bayern looking to hit the long diagonal over his shoulder. Standing up to it well, though.
Joel Matip 6
Fortunate some very sloppy passing hasn’t proven costly, made one vital tackle but that own goal had been coming.
Virgil van Dijk 7
Having the better of it against Lewandowski, and demonstrating his usual calm.
Andy Robertson 5
Saw a strong shot repelled by Neuer but has been targeted by Bayern and was badly caught out by Gnabry for the equaliser.
Jordan Henderson
The skipper’s evening ended after only 13 minutes with an injury to his left ankle.
Gini Wijnaldum 6
A few good touches but a little more control when on the ball would be welcome. All a bit rushed.
James Milner 6
Putting in a decent shift and attempting to get Liverpool going creatively, even if his passes aren’t really hitting the mark.
Mohamed Salah 7
Working hard defensively and has showed some very good footwork, and has scared Bayern with his pace on the break. Needs more of that.
Roberto Firmino 6
At times so deep he’s almost in Austria. Started to find his range after a nervy opening and flashed one shot wide.
Sadio Mane 8
Took his goal brilliantly and has been Liverpool’s most lively attacker. Wowed with one jinking run into the area.
Fabinho (for Henderson 13) 7
Putting himself about having been thrust into the action. Booked.
Half-Time
Into stoppage-time
A minimum of two minutes are added on at the end of the first half.
Let-off
Firmino loses possession on the halfway line as Bayern thread it through to Lewandowski.
He dinks the ball past Alisson but it goes wide. However, there was a late flag from the assistant referee for offside.
Alisson saves
Alaba’s free-kick came from a long way out and it was an easy one for Alisson to save.
Fabinho booked
Fabinho booked. Free-kick to Bayern in a dangerous position. Alaba stands over it...
Mane's goal

Mood transformed
Poor defending and Liverpool are punished. That’s transformed the mood inside this stadium.
Accident waiting to happen
That own goal has been coming for some time from Matip. He nearly scored one in the first leg.
GOAL - Bayern 1-1 Liverpool (Matip OG)
Bayern get in behind the defence and whip in a low cross.
Matip inadvertently sends it into his own net, though if he hadn’t got in the way of it, Lewandowski was waiting behind him to convert.
Helping hand
The referee is giving Bayern a slight helping hand by awarding them a lot of little fouls that perhaps wouldn’t be given usually.
Having said that, he’s not being conned by some Bayern players falling over, like Ribery.
WATCH: Mane's goal
Robertson goes close
Mane plays in Robertson who shrugs off his man before powering at goal... saved by Neuer at the near post.
Liverpool keeping the pressure on with a succession of corners.
That Bayern penalty appeal
And here’s a picture of that Bayern penalty appeal from earlier.

Henderson update
Alisson saves
Allez Allez Allez
The travelling Reds are enjoying themselves too as ‘Allez Allez Allez’ rings out around the Allianz Arena.
Invested Klopp
Klopp is properly kicking every ball here. He’s just celebrated an interception from Alexander-Arnold almost as much as the goal.
Priceless
That’s class from Sadio Mane. A priceless away goal. He took that so well. No idea what Neuer was doing but he was punished.
No extra-time
That means there’s no extra time or penalties.
Bayern were treating this like an away game but they are now going to have to come out to play.
GOAL! - Bayern 0-1 Liverpool (Mane)
Liverpool have the away goal! And what a finish from Sadio Mane!
A stupendous turn from the forward as he controls Van Dijk’s pass, gets past Neuer and dinks the ball into the empty net. Class.
Firmino shoots wide
Decent strike from Firmino. He had Neuer worried. Liverpool need more of that.
Half-chance
Mane tries to play in Firmino but the Brazilian doesn’t read it and Neuer gathers it.
