Two men have been held for the murder of a 36-year-old man, whose body was found on Saturday at Dadar railway station. The two have been identified as Mahendra alias Mahesh Solanki (35) and Ganesh alias Golu Vaghela (27), residents of Kasarwadi area of Dadar.
The deceased, Anil Shelar — a member of the 'Bol Bachchan' gang, which is involved in cheating, robbery and chain snatching — was brutally assaulted with an iron rod and a blade.
The arrest was made following a probe by the Mumbai Central railway police and officers of crime branch Unit VI.
According to the police, Anil's body was found near the electric cabin of Dadar railway station in the wee hours of Saturday. Soon after it was determined that it was a case of murder. The deceased's brother, Sunil revealed that Anil had been having an illicit relationship Solanki's wife. Solanki is the main accused in the case.
"Solanki is a petty criminal. He was once externed from the city and had to face preventive detention in one of the matters registered against him. While he was in jail, Solanki's wife and Anil began an affair. Solanki tried to end the relationship by telling Sunil to make Anil stay away from his wife. As that did not work, he decided to meet Anil himself," said Purushottam Karad, deputy commissioner of police, western railway.
On Saturday, Solanki accompanied by Vaghela, met Anil and spoke to him but when he refused to comply, Solanki smashed his head with a rod which led to his death immediately. The accused duo, along with the deceased, has multiple offences registered against them at Shahunagar, Nirmalnagar, Dadar, Santacruz, Kurla and Shivaji Park police stations.
"In all, 21 matters are registered against Anil owing to his activities as part of the Bol Bachchan gang. Both the accused were arrested from Khar with the help of crime branch Unit VI officers. At present, the accused have been booked under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code," added Karad.
