Ludhiana: A 41-year-old man allegedly committed suicide at his house in Ahata Mohammad Tahir, here, on Tuesday.

Police said Rajinder Kumar, a sewing machine mechanic, was upset over his poor financial condition.

“As Rajinder’s income was not much, his wife and daughter worked as domestic helps in nearby localities. From the past some days, Rajinder was upset over his poor pecuniary state. After his wife and daughter left for work, Rajinder hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his rented accommodation,” said Division 3 police station sub-inspector Hajur Lal.

In the afternoon, when his wife and daughter returned home, they found him hanging. His family said they suspected no foul play, the sub-inspector added.

The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
