A mum-of-two who rents her home has revealed how she transformed her kitchen using rolls of cheap contact she bought from Kmart.

Kezza Brockley, from Melbourne, said that her rental property was originally decked out with green laminated benches that didn't match her decor.

She was able to give these areas a fresh look after covering the surfaces using five rolls of $3 contact.

'I decided to spruce up the old vinyl after a year,' Ms Brockley wrote on a Facebook post alongside photos of her benches before and after their transformation.

Sharing details of her renovation to the Facebook group Kmart Home Hacks & Decor, Ms Brockley said she'd spent a total of $15 to complete her upgrade.

The overhaul saw her first cut the contact to size and after it had been applied to bench tops, a contact scraper was used to remove any remaining bubbles.

She said her twins had helped her to remove the old contact as well as apply strips of the new product.

Those who'd seen the mum's handiwork online were quick to praise her efforts and scores of people left comments saying how brilliant they thought her hack was.

'What great fun to be changing every so often always a new fresh look,' one person wrote.

'The white marble looks lovely and fresh,' another said.

'Wood will always look better. Having said that the white gives more light and life to the place,' a third said.

As well as being flooded with a range of compliments, the mum also fielded questions as to how her landlord might respond to the changes.

'My landlord loves it and at least it saves the actual benches from getting wrecked and for $18 who cares,' she wrote on the thread.

'I'm not sure how it damages it though, this is my second time and there was no damage at all. Just wiped the bench and started again.'

The mum was also grilled by commenters as to how she'd remove the contact after she ended her lease.

'It has done no damage whatsoever,' said Ms Brockley, 'and you can use sticky goo remover for any left over sticking.'
