My iPhone saved my life: Man escapes with just a broken phone after his bow-wielding neighbour 'tried to shoot him when he stopped to take a photo'

A man has inadvertendly saved himself from serious injury by catching an arrow with his phone after another man allegedly shot at him in NSW's hippy heartland.

The 43-year-old arrived home at his Nimbin property at 9am on Wednesday morning and got out of his car.

He saw a man known to him standing outside his home armed with a bow and arrow, NSW Police said in a statement.

When the man held up his phone to take a picture of the alleged offender, the man then took aim. 

The man allegedly fired the arrow, piercing the resident's phone, the impact caused the phone to hit him in the chin and left a small cut on his chin. 

He did not require medical treatment, police said. 

A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He was taken to Nimbin Police Station where he was charged with armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Lismore Local Court on Monday 15 April 2019.
