Dindigul Taluk police on Wednesday arrested six persons in connection with the double murder in Nallampatti Weavers’ Colony near here two days ago.
Pandi alias Tirupur Pandi and his wife Panchu alias Panchavarnam were residing in Nallampatti. It is said that Pandi figured in some cases of heinous crimes. Two days ago, an armed gang hurled country bombs at his house.
When Pandi and his wife tried to ran away, the gang chased and attacked them with deadly weapons, killing themon the spot.
Special police teams were formed to nab the assailants. After interrogating a few suspects and family members of Pandi, the police zeroed in on the suspects.
In the wee hours of Wednesday, the special police team arrested six persons – Siva alias Sivakumar, 24, Nandakumar, 22, Selvakumar, 24, Mani, 24, Ranganathan, 22, and Vignesh, 25. After registering a case, the police produced them before a judicial magistrate court, which remanded them in custody.
According to a senior police officer, Siva confessed that they allegedly planned to eliminate Pandi as his men had figured in the murder of one Kumaresan of Paraipatti a few years ago. Several attempts to finish off Pandi and his family failed in the past. One of the assailants spotted the couple last week.
Siva allegedly told the interrogators that they searched the house for Pandi’s two sons, and since they were not found there the gang fled from the scene.
The police officer further said that based on the confession of the other accused, the teams were on the lookout for 11 more suspects in connection with the crime.
