Senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s private secretary M.V. Jayarajan assumed charge as the party’s district secretary on Monday, replacing P. Jayarajan, who is the party’s candidate for the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency.
The decision to elevate Mr. M.V. Jayarajan as the party’s district secretary was unanimous, according to the party district committee which met here on Monday.
Sasi’s role
In another development, former CPI(M) district secretary P. Sasi was reinducted in the party after a gap of eight years. He also attended the district committee meeting in the morning. According to party circles, Mr. Sasi would have the charge of managing Mr. Jayarajan’s election campaign. Mr. Sasi had been removed from the post of district secretary of the party and also expelled from the party in 2011 on the charge of sexual misconduct.
Mr. P. Jayarajan took charge as the party district secretary at that time.
CM’s PS?
There were speculation that Mr. Sasi might replace Mr. M.V. Jayarajan as private secretary of the Chief Minister. Mr. Sasi had served as political secretary of the late E.K. Nayanar when he was Chief Minister.
Party sources also said that the replacement of Mr. P. Jayarajan with Mr. M.V. Jayarajan was not a temporary arrangement.
The latter had been given charge as the party chief in the district temporarily when the former had been arrested in two cases of murder – the murder of Indian Union Muslim League worker Abdul Shukkoor of Ariyil here and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker K. Manoj of Kathirur.
