‘Sand transporting vehicles should cover the load’

The city police will ask trucks transporting sand to cover the loads, said Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil here recently .

Answering two calls at the weekly phone-in programme, Mr. Patil said orders would be issued soon mandating that truck drivers cover the load. “The construction material also should be covered by tarpaulin,” he said.

On complaints regarding the dumping of construction material on the road, Mr. Patil said the police would book builders/owners under the Karnataka Police Act, 1963, for this.

When a caller pointed out on the two-wheelers stopping their vehicles on the zebra crossings, the Commissioner said city police are booking cases against such offenders. Over 200 cases have been booked since Monday.

Bad parking

Mr. Patil said the city police have intensified the drive on towing away haphazardly parked vehicles. In the last seven days, they booked 106 cases of which 75 were two-wheelers and 31 cars. Drivers can learn where their vehicles have been parked after being towed by calling the police control room (No. 100 or 2220800), he said.

The Commissioner said the police had booked 143 cases in the last week for use of tints on cars. The police have removed the tints and collected a fine of ₹14,300.

Problem of vendors

A caller asked the police to take action against street vendors who operate on Sundays in City Market in the space meant for parking. Another caller alleged that an educational institution near Kottara Chowki was using four old vehicles for transportation of students.

A caller from Bunder said students in the vicinity are concerned over dumping of construction debris on the road between Rosario School and State Bank of India Circle. A student from Maroli sought action against vehicles emitting excess smoke.
