PUNE: With the Model Code of Conduct kicking-in on Sunday, the candidates waiting for teachers’ recruitment for a long time have given up hope on the number of vacancies increasing. Disappointed with the government’s approach towards unemployment and delay in recruitments, the teaching  aspirants have decided to unite with the qualified, unemployed youths in the State to contest the Lok Sabha elections.

After a long wait of nine years, the State Government opened 10,001 vacancies across the State at government and government-aided primary and secondary schools. However, the candidates, who were expecting at least 15,000 to 16,000 vacancies to open in the first phase are unhappy.

“The distribution of the seats too is unfair to the Open and SEBC category candidates as we have pointed out earlier. We tried our best to persuade the government to increase the vacancies considering the huge number of candidates in waiting. However, no policy changes will be made now for the next two months,” Santosh Magar, Founder President, DTEd BEd Students Association said.

The association has brought together many other degree-holders, unemployed students in the State for elections.

“In the last four to five years, no major recruitments have taken place. Even those that were promised are either delayed or are stuck in the court. Since the government is not paying attention to us, we thought it’s the best time to come together and try to solve our issues by trying to enter the system itself,” Magar added.

The MPSC Students’ Rights Association, engineering degree-holders, NET-SET qualified candidates, etc. will be gathering at Sarasbaug on Wednesday to discuss the further course of action.
