NEW DELHI: Family members of Anjana Mishra, who was killed in a car blaze along with two of her daughters, have alleged foul play in the incident that took place on Akshardham flyover on Sunday.
“He used to blame Anjana for bearing three daughters. For the first eight years of their marriage, he hadn’t even brought her to Delhi. He only brought her here six years ago after their first daughter was born,” Dikshit said, while standing outside the mortuary of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital on Monday.
The couple got married in 2004. Their relationship allegedly deteriorated to such an extent after his beatings that the families had to involve the panchayat. Dikshit said he had last talked to his sister on February 22 when she had gone to attend a wedding.
“He didn’t like his daughters either. He had started seeing other women. Everyone in his family knows about it. When I last spoke to my sister, she told me that Upender had beaten her up over a trivial issue,” Dikshit said.
The family members are also suspicious of the sequence of events as told by Upender. They claimed that the couple’s surviving daughter, Siddhi, had told them that her father had set the car on fire himself.
“He is keeping the child away and not letting us speak to her. Upender didn’t even tell us about the incident. We got to know about it through relatives. If it was just an accident, he could have informed me about my sister’s death,” Dikshit said.
