PATNA: President of the state unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr Shaligram Vishwakarma on Tuesday said the number of tuberculosis (TB) patients in Bihar was much higher than other states.
Inaugurating an IMA-Bihar programme, christened ‘End TB’, Dr Vishwakarma said the association was working with the state government to develop strategies to effectively address the impediments in the management of the disease.
“The IMA will hold a series of dedicated TB programmes for medical professionals across the state. Our aim is to make the state TB-free by 2025. We will utilise maximum resources at our disposal to achieve this goal,” he added.
Dr Vishwakarma said private doctors would be encouraged through educational sessions to notify cases of TB that come to their clinics.
The IMA-Bihar president said in 2018, 3,221 cases of TB were reported in government hospitals in Patna and 17,939 cases in private hospitals. However, the number jumped to 64,363 cases in government hospitals and 41,224 cases in private hospitals in 2018.
Dr Vishwakarma said the ‘End TB’ programme was aimed at helping the doctors in identifying and diagnosing the TB disease. “They will get to know about cartridge-based nucleic acid amplification test,” he said.
