Forty-year-old Sundar Singh who allegedly killed his two minor children and later hanged himself at his house early on Tuesday wrote a series of suicide notes in a register — the one on March 11 was his final note. Police said the notes indicated that he was desperate to secure a loan to tide over an acute financial crisis.

Forty-year-old Sundar allegedly murdered his specially abled son Tushar, 14, and daughter Mahi,11, before killing himself at his house in Ghaziabad’s Sihani near Raj Nagar Extension early Tuesday.

Notes recovered in his room stated that the man, Sundar Singh, who ran an eatery at Kullu in Himachal Pradesh, was trying for a loan but it did not materialise, the police said.

Police said they have recovered at least 12 to 14 pages from the room where the bodies were found and are treating them as Sundar’s suicide notes. The notes had calculation of funds as well as his daily noting which reveals that he was dealing with two persons named ‘Gaurav’ and ‘Bhawna’ for getting a loan of Rs 6.9 lakh.

“I called him today and he told me that my loan of Rs 6.9 lakh was approved through non banking (finance company) and will be credited to my account on March 7... He then disconnected the phone,” Sundar’s note on March 6 said.

On March 7, he wrote that he called up Gaurav again and he replied before disconnecting the phone that the loan will be approved the next day. “Today at 10.49am, when I called him up, he said the work will be done on Monday. I called him again and told him that I would not be able to wait longer than Monday. He replied that this would not be needed...” the note on March 8 said.

For next two days there was no note. However, the final note in the register is on March 11. In this, he mentions that he will take his life. “I called up Gaurav at 10.41am and he replied that he will close the chapter by 12-1pm. Thereafter, his mobile phone was switched off. Now it is 15:56 and it is to be seen whether he closes the chapter before evening or not. After February 26, 2019 Bhawna picked up my call today. She told me to give her time till 5pm and will call back. It is to be seen if she calls back or not,” the March 11 note said.

The note ended with these lines, “If the work is not completed today, this will be my last line and I will not add anything more to this note... nothing at all... because I will be ending my life tonight.”

Police said they will get Sundar’s handwriting matched with the notes he left behind.

“It appears that his other family members were not aware of the notes. We are now treating his notes as his suicide note. During initial probe, we found he was seeking a loan but was denied several times. He mentioned two persons. They will be called in for questioning. If it turns out to be a case of harassment, we will book the two for abetting Sundar’s suicide,” Atish Kumar Singh, circle officer (city 2), said.
