BHOPAL: No case under Property Defacement Act has been registered in the state capital afterModel Code of Conduct (MCC) for general elections came in force on Sunday evening. Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) continued its drive for removing the banners, posters and cutouts from state capital on Monday. Soon after the declaration of the general elections and subsequent imposition of MCC, the BMC administration had swung into action to clear the city skyline of the political hoardings, banners and posters.
BMC has fanned its members of removal gang across the city to bring down all political banners and the drive continued throughput Sunday night and following day. BMC’s Property Defacement cell head Israr said, “No case under Property Defacement Act has been registered so far in the state capital. We are simply removing them. However, the civic body can also levy heavy fine on violators especially from political leaders for displaying the hoardings and posters.”
Most of the banners and posters have been removed, BMC teams were pressed into job throughout the night and on Monday too the drive continued, claimed Israr, adding that banners from prominent places have been removed. The city is dotted with posters and banners greeting netas on birthdays, cultural events like kavi sammelan sponsored by political leaders. Party supporters have also put up cutouts of their political bosses, which are also being targeted by BMC wing. Teams also visited offices of political parties to clear them of the banners and posters.

“As per rules, FIR is lodged first against violator under Defacement of Properties Act if banners and posters are not removed within 48 hours. Then penalty is slapped. So far no case has been registered.”
