Solskjaer ready to put down roots

2019-03-12 13:12

Cape Town - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is poised to move back into the home he owns and currently rents out to Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Manchester United caretaker could be announced as early as this week as the next permanent Old Trafford boss, having engineered an impressive run of results since taking over from sacked Jose Mourinho in late December.

The Norwegian is believed to be the number one choice of the Red Devils' board after steering the club into the battle for a top-four finish and the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Solskjaer suffered his first Premier League defeat in Sunday's 2-0 loss to Arsenal but it would appear the 46-year-old is going nowhere soon.

The legendary former United striker has kept the family home he used to live in during his playing days in Manchester, preferring to rent it out instead.

It is understood Van Dijk has been paying around £2 500-per-week to stay in the Cheshire residence since his own £75 million move to Anfield from Southampton 14 months ago.

United are said to be willing to hand Solskjaer's parent club Molde a £6 million goodwill settlement, with insiders at the Manchester giants revealing a number of loose ends are being tied up, including the issue of housing his family, who are currently back in Norway.
