With the model code of conduct coming into force for the upcoming general elections, measures are being put in place across Mandya and Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha constituencies to ensure it is not violated.
Voting in both the seats is scheduled to be held on April 18.
Mandya
The Election Commission would initiate measures to ensure the model code of conduct is not violated by the political parties, candidates, party workers, and even media persons, said N. Manjushri, Deputy Commissioner and Mandya District Election Officer.
As many as 2,046 booths will be established. Advertisements pertaining to political parties/leaders would be removed and measures such as formation of vigilance squads will be initiated, she said.
According to the officer, Mandya seat, comprising eight Assembly constituencies including Krishnaraja Nagar of Mysuru district, has 16,90,483 voters.
Voters in each constituency: While Malavalli Assembly constituency (2,39,831 voters) registered the highest number of electors in the LS seat, Melkote Assembly constituency (1,94,906) registered the least number of voters. Maddur Assembly constituency (2,06,403, Mandya Assembly constituency (2,23,275), Srirangapatna Assembly constituency (2,09,204), Nagamangala Assembly constituency (2,06,859), Krishnaraja Pete Assembly constituency (2,05,285) and Krishnaraja Nagara Assembly constituency (2,04,720) are the constituencies that come under the Mandya Lok Sabha seat.
Bengaluru Rural
As many as 24,56,207 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha constituency, said Captain K. Rajendra, Deputy Commissioner, on Monday.
The Election Commission would set up 2,688 polling stations across the segment, he told presspersons.
The parliamentary segment has eight Assembly constituencies. They are: Magadi (2,22,853 voters), Kanakapura (2,19,866), Channapatna (2,15,613), Ramanagaram (2,07,388), Kunigal (1,89,772), Rajarajeshwari Nagar (4,45,847), Bengaluru South (5,98,230), and Anekal Assembly constituency (3,56,638 voters).
Facilities
The Election Commission has launched “cVigil” mobile application for citizens to share proof of electoral malpractices by parties/candidates and established a voter helpline centre – 1950 to provide details on electoral lists. People should make use of these facilities, the DC said.
