District Election Officer and Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao on Tuesday conducted a mock polling to ensure correct functioning of these units after completing first level checking of additional electronic voting machines - Control units, Ballot units and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines.

The checking was done in the presence of recognised political parties two days ago. The district had completed checking of 3205 ballot units, 1681 control units and 1639 VVPATs in October, 2018 and kept them safely in the high security godown at the agriculture marketing office complex.
Five per cent of electronic voting machines were selected randomly for mock voting. The polled votes were verified with the VVPATs and the process was explained to the representatives of political parties, he said.
Accompanied by Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena, he inspected flying squad and static surveillance teams and advised them to remain vigil and act on complaints of violations of model code of conduct. However, they should not unnecessarily harass the public while carrying out vehicle checks.
Earlier, addressing owners of printing presses, he said they should print contents in wall posters and pamphlets for contesting candidates and political parties only after ensuring they were permitted by the DEO. Owners of marriage halls should ensure that the model code of conduct was not violated.
In Sivaganga, Collector and DEO J. Jayakanthan addressed representatives of recognised political parties and owners of printing presses along with Superintendent of Police T. Jayachandran and sensitised them to the model code of conduct. He inspected flying and static surveillance teams and advised them to maintain vigil.
