The Election Commission on Tuesday met the three special central observers who have been appointed to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The electoral body will take into account their report in deciding the schedule for the State Assembly election.
The special observers are retired IAS officers Noor Mohammad and Vinod Zutshi, and retired IPS officer A.S. Gill. They met Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and the Election Commissioners.
During the two-hour-long meeting, the Commission requested the special observers to visit the State at the earliest. Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena briefed them about the election preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir and shared other relevant details.
“The Commission discussed with them about their roles and responsibilities,” the EC said.
“The Commission will be regularly, and on real-time basis, monitoring the situation in the State and will also be taking inputs from all necessary quarters,” said the EC, adding that a decision regarding the Assembly elections would be taken soon.
