26 lakh ink vials sought from Mysuru firm

representative image MYSURU: Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited, a government of Karnataka undertaking, has orders from the Election Commission of India to supply 26 lakh vials of indelible ink for the forthcoming general election. The sole supplier of indelible ink for elections in the country, the firm is set to earn Rs 33 crore from this order, sources said.
C Hara Kumar, general manager (marketing) of Mysore Paints and Varnish, told TOI that each vial contains 10ml of indelible ink and can mark 700 voters. “In the last Lok Sabha elections, we sold 22 lakh vials,” he said.
The rise in demand was attributed to the increase in the number of voters. There are 8.2 crore additional voters in India since the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. In all, 89.7 crore voters are eligible to vote in the 2019 election. Production started on January 7 and the first consign-ment will be dispatched in a couple of days.
