Man missing case: Samples collected from burial ground
TNN | Mar 13, 2019, 04:52 ISTTirupur: CB-CID sleuths on Tuesday exhumed four-year-old remains of a man from the burial ground near Valam bridge in the city to collect samples for DNA test.
Muthuvel of Thiruchuzhi in Virudhunagar district had lodged a police complaint after his 25-year-old son Selvaraj went missing in 2007. Since there was no progress in the case, Muthuvel moved the Madurai bench of the Madras high court seeking direction to transfer the case to CB-CID. The case was transferred to CB-CID on January 3.
The HC was informed that the photograph of an unidentified man, who was found dead in Tirupur, matched with that of Selvaraj . The court directed the investigation agency to conduct DNA tests to verify the claim.
In 2015, the Tirupur north police had recovered the body of a man from Thundukkadu and registered a case under section 174 of CrPC. As they could not ascertain his identity, police buried it in a burial ground.
On Tuesday, Virudhunagar CB-CID sleuths along with a medical team from the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital collected samples from the remains. The samples will be sent to a recognised laboratory to find out whether the dead man was Selvaraj.
