The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is likely to auction 43 properties on March 26 as the owners of these buildings have failed to clear their property tax dues to the civic body, said officials on Tuesday.

It marks the third time that the MCG is scheduled to auction properties of tax defaulters. In November 2017, the MCG auctioned four properties in the city, the first such instance in Haryana. The following month, the MCG auctioned six more properties. The 10 properties were auctioned for a cumulative sum of Rs 7.75 crore.

“As per provisions of the Haryana Municipal Act 1994, an owner of a commercial, industrial or residential structure needs to deposit property tax dues to the MCG on an annual basis. However, the owners of the 43 structures defaulted on numerous occasions despite repeated reminders from the MCG and, hence their properties are due to be auctioned,” said SS Rohilla, public relations officer (PRO) of the MCG.

As per MCG officials, all the 43 properties are either industrial or commercial in nature. They further said that the auction will take place at the MCG’s main office in Sector 34 though the date of the auctioning is subject to change and will depending on the schedule of senior MCG officials.

MCG officials said that the defaulters have until the day of auctioning to pay their dues to the MCG to prevent their building’s from being auctioned off.

Once the building is auctioned, the MCG will deduct the property tax dues from the final amount, and give the remaining amount to the original owner of the building. For participating in the bidding, bidders will have to submit a refundable earnest money deposit (EMD) of Rs 20,000, said officials.

Fifty percent of the bid amount will have to be paid on the spot by the successful bidder and remaining amount within 15 days from the date of the auction, failing which the money already paid will be forfeited, added officials.
