Rameswar Teli of the BJP is the sitting Lok Sabha MP from Dibrugarh. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Teli defeated Paban Singh Ghatowar of the Congress by 1,85,347 votes. Polling in the constituency will take place on April 11.

DIbrugarh is a prized seat given its economic clout which straddles tea, oil and gas and coal industries. The constituency used to be a Congress bastion which won the seat 12 times so far since 1951 and the party is expected to put up a tough fight.

The constituency covers nine assembly segments - Moran, Dibrugarh, Lahowal, Duliajan, Thingkhong, Naharkaria, Tinsukia, Digboi and Margherita across Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

According to the 2011 census, out of total 1937415 population 76.38% is rural and 23.62% is urban population. The Scheduled castes (SC) and Scheduled tribes (ST) ratio is 3.66 and 6.54, respectively out of total population.

In 2009 Lok Sabha election Ghatowar had defeated current Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal who was then with the Asom Gana Parishad.
