MUMBAI: An alert citizen foiled a break-in at a jewellery shop in Dadar early Monday and got three accused, including two women, arrested. Two other male members of the gang managed to flee.
Shivaji Park police arrested Usha Omprakash Dubey (42), Ushadevi Rajkishore Chaurasia (40) and Raju. Police have booked the accused for attempted robbery. Police said the gang uses women as a shield in break-ins, besides also using them as honey traps for security guards.
Police said the two accused who fled had brought tools to break the lock.
Police thanked a 52-yearold Dadar resident who called up the main control room around 1 am and informed them some people were trying to break into a jewellery shop next to his house at D’Silva Road.
The control room immediately alerted the Shivaji Park police station. “When our police team reached the spot they found the lock of Jay and Sons jewellery shop broken and the CCTV damaged too,” said an officer. The women suspects first told police they had come to change the lock, but during sustained interrogation they admitted they had come to loot the shop.
