Lok Sabha Elections 2019: New age voters want jobs, safety from new government

Inflation, employment generation, women’s safety and zero tolerance against terrorism appear to be the main issues on the minds of the young voters in the run-up to the Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

Unmindful of the political propaganda based on caste and religion, many voters their vote will be propelled by the development in their local area. “The economic status of our country should improve. Sudden increase and decrease in the prices of basic commodities becomes a problem for the common man,” said a first BA LLB student Saloni.

She also expressed anger at private colleges which demand donations and raise the fees whenever they want. “The government should interfere in the management of private universities and should have a strong hold on them,” she said.

“Private universities have become unaffordable due to which many capable students are deprived of education,” said Shivansh who is an undergraduate student of microbiology.

Another student Gyan Prakash , pursuing BJMC endorsed her view. He said, “The government should create job opportunities in every field because unemployment is a crucial issue in our country.”

Vanshika and Nishant, also students, said women’s safety must be ensured.

“I want to feel safe on roads and public places even in the middle of the night,” said Vanshika, a first year MJMC student.

Many students also said that they wanted a government that takes strict action against terrorism.

Corruption and health facilities were also on the students’ list.

Sanjeev Mishra, professor, Vidya Knowledge Park, said, “The government should guarantee access to quality education to every Indian citizen”.

He also added that a government which was willing to adopt a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism would be his choice.

Shivam, assistant section officer in MHA, wants a government that works for the common man and looks after the local problems.

Abhishek Kaushik, manager, Syndicate bank said, “Leaders who are against corruption will be my choice”. He also said that the government should take strong steps for national security.

Traders and businessmen said they wanted better transport and communication facilities in their areas. “Private hospitals are very expensive and government hospitals are ill-equipped. Development of health facilities is very important,” said Sanjay Kumar, a cloth merchant.

Confectionery store owner Vishal Goel wanted the new government to control the prices of basic commodities.
