noida Updated: Mar 13, 2019 02:36 ISTA 25-year-old BTech first year student of a private university took his own life by hanging from the ceiling fan inside his room in a high-rise in Noida Sector 45 on Monday night. No suicide note was recovered.
The man was identified as Utkarsh Shukla, from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. He was living in a rented flat at the Amrapali Sapphire society in Sector 45 with two friends and was a student of Amity University.
According to the police, Shukla was alone in the flat at the time of the incident.
“His flatmates had gone out and when they returned around 10.30pm, they found that the main door of the flat was locked from inside. When they didn’t receive a response despite multiple attempts, they tried peeping inside the flat and one of them informed security guards of the society,” Prashant Kapil, SHO, Sector 39 police station, said.
The officer added that by then, the neighbours had also come out and with the help of the guards, they broke down the door and found Shukla hanging from a fan.
“They called up the police helpline (100). Meanwhile, his flatmates took him to Jaypee Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Afterwards, we informed his family members who came to Noida on Tuesday,” the SHO said.
Police said no note was found at the spot. “Although, when we spoke to the family and his friends, it seemed that Shukla was under stress due to academics. The mark sheet of his previous semester examination had showed that he had failed one of the papers. That could probably be why he took his own life,” Kapil said.
The family has not filed any complaints and has even refused an autopsy, the police said. The body has been handed over to them, officers added.
