Nokia 9 PureView teardown video reveals the five camera sensors, in-display fingerprint sensor, and more

“Nokia 9 PureView teardown video shows the penta rear-camera setup, optical in-display fingerprint sensor, vapour chamber, and more”

HMD Global at MWC 2019 has introduced the Nokia 9 PureView smartphone with five rear cameras, the handset’s standout feature. Even though it packs last year’s Snapdragon 845, the rear camera setup did steal the show in Barcelona two weeks back. The penta-lens setup of the Nokia 9 PureView includes two 12-megapixel RGB sensors, three monochrome 12-megapixel sensors, dual LED flash, and a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor at the back. While the surface looks quite impressive, a teardown video posted by YouTube channel PBK Reviews shows us the internals of the world’s first smartphone with five rear cameras.

The Nokia 9 PureView teardown video takes us through a step-by-step process of the teardown. You’ll need a heat gun, and pry tools to open up the glass back of the device, revealing the internals. Removing the back reveals the entire internals, including the thirteen Philips screws holding a plastic cover and the wireless charger coil. On removing the back, you’ll notice that the glass panel is firmly fixed to the frame with lots of adhesive, which is to improve its water resistance. Removing the Philips screws allows you to disassemble the back cover upon which the battery can also be disconnected and removed.

Among the five camera sensors, three of them are arranged vertically at the middle and two on the horizontal side between the third and fourth cameras. The vapour chamber underneath, the midframe, and the fingerprint sensor are visible only after disconnecting the battery and other connected parts from the motherboard including some screws. To recall, the Nokia 9 is also the first phone from HMD Global to feature an optical in-display fingerprint sensor. While the disassembly video of Nokia 9 PureView shows that it may be easy to repair, it will require some care and patience.
