It's a known fact that Sridevi was finalised to play the role of Bahaar Begum in Kalank. Post her sad demise, there were speculations making the rounds that Madhuri Dixit-Nene might be stepping into the shoes of Sridevi. Janhvi Kapoor took to her Instagram page and made the announcement that Madhuri will be seen in Kalank. She shared a photo of the veteran actors and wrote, "Abhishek Varman’s next film was very close to mom’s heart ...Dad, Khushi and I are thankful to Madhuriji for now being a part of this beautiful film..."
Today, at the teaser launch event of Kalank, when Madhuri was asked about stepping into the shoes of Sridevi, she said, "It was tragic news and I had a heavy heart when I was approached for the movie. She was a brilliant actress. To step into her role, as an actress, you do your role, but yes she was always remembered on the sets as she was supposed to do the film. But, then if you start working on the project, you have to see beyond that and you have to do with conviction and that's what I did. We definitely will miss her".
During an interaction with DNA After Hrs, Madhuri spoke at length about Sridevi saying, "We had known each other for many years and shared a warm equation. It was difficult for everyone in the industry to wrap their heads around her sudden loss. It is still hard to accept the truth. I don’t think anyone of us has still come to terms with her absence. We will always feel the void. When I was on the sets, I looked at it as just another role. But, yes, I was extremely emotional when Karan (Johar) asked me to take up her role. I hope I make her proud".
Meanwhile, talking about Kalank, the film is slated to release on April 17, 2019.
