PANCHKULA: Two days after a 29-year-old woman of Punjab was allegedly drugged and raped by four men at a hotel in Sector 11, the police have arrested one of the accused.

The survivor’s statements were recorded on Monday. She alleged that Chandigarh resident Vikram, 30, who was known to her, had called her to meet him in Panchkula’s Sector 11 hotel on Saturday evening. Vikram’s three friends were also there. Sources in police said, “The four were partying in the hotel, when Vikram gave the woman some drug and attempted to rape her. When the woman raised her voice, she was forcibly administered more drug. As she became unconscious, the four raped her.”

The matter came to light the next day, when the survivor did not regain consciousness and the accused rushed her to Sector 6 civil hospital. Leaving her alone in that condition, the men fled from there. The Sector 6 hospital referred the survivor to PGIMER, Chandigarh. When the woman came to her senses, she was taken to a private hospital by her family. An ID card helped identify her and trace her family.

On Monday, cops registered a case under sections 376-D (punishment for gang rape), 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc, with intent to commit an offence) of the IPC at the women’s police station.

Women’s police station assistant commissioner Noopur Bishnoi said, “Vikram has been arrested. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the other three.”
