At the 2019 Symposium for the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp™), February 7 - 10, a record of more than 950 attendees gathered at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert, California, to learn the latest research for eating disorder treatment, from treatment approaches and compelling patient histories of recovery to the latest findings from brain research.

At the 2019 Symposium for the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp™), February 7 - 10, a record of more than 950 attendees gathered at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert, California, to learn the latest research for eating disorder treatment, from treatment approaches and compelling patient histories of recovery to the latest findings from brain research. The conference theme, “Instilling Passion into Treatment and Recovery,” reflected the rapidly changing field of eating disorders diagnosis and treatment.

“The 2019 Symposium attracted a record number of attendees who participated in more than 60 presentations and workshops,” said Bonnie Harken, Managing Director of the iaedp™ Foundation. “The level of engagement was inspiring as professionals from all over the U.S. and many countries joined together, all seeking the latest information available today about the treatment of eating disorders.”

Keeping with Symposium tradition, the winners of the 8th annual body image mannequin art competition, “Imagine Me Beyond What You See,” were announced:

First Place - “Boys with Dresses” by Rogers Behavioral Health of FOCUS Adult Residential Program; Oconomowoc, WI

Runner Up – “Disconnected Wires” by Phaedra Silke (19) of Fraser North Eating Disorders Program, Child and Youth Mental Health; Port Moody, BC, Canada

Honorable Mention - “Our Return” by Alsana Luna of Residential Treatment Center; Thousand Oaks, CA

The Professionals Choice Award - “Who Am I?” by the Center for Discovery; Freemont, CA with a record of 13,237 online votes plus the onsite ballot voting at Symposium

The iaedp™ Board of Directors’ Awards Committee announced the winners of the 2019 awards:
