“Why is the earth round?”
"Why is the sky blue?"
“Where do babies come from?”
“How does this machine work?
“Why is that person speaking a different language than me?”
“What is light made of?”
“When is tomorrow?”
“Why can’t the dog speak like me?”
If you are a parent to a curious, inquisitive child, we bet that you will relate to these questions and might have rolled your eyes or even let out a laugh at some of these questions! According to a study published in a UK-based university last year, children between the age of 3-8 ask a minimum of 73 questions every single day, out of which their parents have answers to only half of them!
While there are times when parents feel irritated with questions that often catch them off guard, there is one unique foundation which actually encourages kids to ask the weirdest, strange and interesting questions they have in their mind. A helpline number has been set up where kids can call and get their questions answered!
A Kerala Forest Research Institute has launched a helpline number wherein curious children can call in if they have any questions and these will be answered by experts on board.
The initiative, known as the 'First Question', is one of a kind experiment which encourages the little ones to get acquainted with the world around them and learn more about nature and science. As many as 50 experts from all fields have pitched in to take on the children’s questions!
In an interview, Dr T.V. Sajeev, the scientist behind the idea said,
“The questions kids ask are important for their genuineness and the intense urge to get them answered. We will try to answer questions on all questions under the sun. But we do not entertain queries on career and employment guidance.”
The service is not just restricted to children based in Kerala. Children from all over the country can call up the number and use the service. Ever since its launch, it has received tremendous response from eager kids. The service is being hailed as a good medium to keep the kids away from depending on the internet and get their doubts cleared in the simplest of manners.
If your children have a question which they want to be answered, you can contact the hotline number at 0487-2690222 every Monday-Friday between 09:30 a.m. to 05:30 p.m.
