CHINCHWAD: The Thergaon Social Foundation has taken back its one-day fast and protest held on Monday after the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) assured them that untreated water will not be discharged in the Pavana river.

The Chinchwad-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), after a survey, found that among the four nalas at Thergaon, one discharges nine MLD untreated sewage water directly into the Pavana river, while the rest discharge 1 MLD each of untreated sewage water into the river at Thergaon.

Aniket Prabhu, Founder Member of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), said, “We wrote letters about the untreated sewage water discharge into the river two months ago, but were ignored. When we organised the protest and sat for a day’s fast outside G ward office, the officials from PCMC came and assured that by Tuesday the nalas which were discharging untreated water will be concretised.”

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)  Executive Engineer Prashant Patil said, “To stop the discharge of untreated sewage water into the river, out of the four nalas, there were two manhole chambers, which have now been concretised and the sewage water will be diverted into the STP plant. The other two nalas had leakages and those will also be concretised within a couple of days.” Patil said from Tuesday there will be zero discharge of untreated sewage water in Pavana river at Thergaon.
