Says he is not aspiring for ticket, but will focus on poll campaign

Telugu film comedian Ali has extended his support to the YSR Congress Party and said he will work for the party’s victory in the elections.

Mr. Ali called on YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy here on Monday and announced his resolve to join the party. Mr. Reddy welcomed the actor into the party. Mr. Reddy is said to have asked him to focus on the election campaign.

Mr. Ali clarified that he was not aspiring for a ticket in the forthcoming elections, but would only focus on conducting campaign on behalf of the YSR Congress. Mr. Jagan had selected the candidates on behalf of the party and gave commitment to them during the padayatra and hence, he (Mr. Ali) had decided against seeking a ticket this time. He, however, said he was not averse to contesting from either Rajahmundry or Vijayawada if the party gave him an opportunity. The actor said he had decided to join the YSR Congress as he could not get any commitment from the Telugu Desam Party. “Mr. Jagan assured to give me a proper position after the polls and he is a man known for his commitment,” he said.

Asked about his meeting with TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, he said it was a courtesy call.

Uma’s brother too joins YSRCP

Devineni Chandrasekhar, the younger brother of Minister for Water Resources Umamaheswara Rao, joined the YSR Congress Party on Monday. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy welcomed him into the party.

Mr. Chandrasekhar said that there were several strong reasons for his joining the YSRCP. The main reason was the corruption of the TDP.
