NEW DELHI: The taboo connected with poor English has given birth to several memes on social media where people often criticise how a person with incorrect grammar or faltering English ends up becoming the office clown.
However, bad your English might be, if that is the language you choose to communicate with foreign minister Sushma Swaraj, she is sure to be able to handle it.
A Twitter user hailing from Punjab and now working in Malaysia tweeted to Swaraj seeking help for an Indian friend struggling with mental health issues. The sentences in his tweet were not clear but the user was able to express his appeal to bring his friend back home to India for treatment.
Another user commented that if the person was not comfortable talking in English, he could have chosen any other language like Hindi or Punjabi to write on Twitter.
Following which Swaraj replied,"There is no problem. After becoming Foreign Minister, I have learnt to follow English of all accents and grammar."
Swaraj, 67, is India's second woman to be the foreign minister after Indira Gandhi. Since taking charge as the foreign minister in May 2014, Swaraj has travelled across the world and has interacted with leaders and diplomats from various countries.
