Surat: An under secretary from technical division of union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is visiting Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) for two days starting Tuesday to inquire into allegations of injustice to some junior faculties over promotions.
Anil Kumar Singh, has come to SVNIT after complaint by a group of junior faculties alleging injustice in promotions. The group had earlier made representation to the union minister of state for higher education Satya Pal Singh during his visit to the city last month. The group alleged that eligible candidates were not being promoted.

“The MHRD officer has come to inquiry into the complaints related to promotions. Detailed examination of the papers will be done to find out if anything wrong has been done,” said an SVNIT official.

Sarvesh Tiwari, registrar of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad, Prayagraj, is also on a visit to SVNIT to assist the institute to carry out smooth recruitment on various posts.

“Dr Tiwari has vast experience management in NIT and he can help undertake recruitment smoothly,” said an officer.

The premier institute is facing financial crisis after failing to receive full annual grant from MHRD since last two years. This was because the institute failed to submit audited accounts.

A two-member committee of MHRD had already visited the institute on February 20-21 and started inquiry.

SVNIT’s in-charge deputy registrar Patij Shah, who looked after accounts department, had resigned when the committee had come for inquiry. He was served a show cause notice last week for delay in audit of accounts and the institute is yet to receive his explanation.
