Mumbai: Three persons have been arrested for the February 2 robbery (Rs1 coins) in Dena Bank’s Matunga branch, police said on Monday. According to police, on a tip-off about their locations, police arrested the accused, Kashinath Vasant Pandharkar, Chetan Manohar Ghaytadake and Prashant Kridshna Bandre. Kashnath Pandharkar was arrested on March 4 (last Monday), and the duo was arrested on March 8 (Friday).
Pandharkar is a history sheeter and has cases of house break-ins registered against him. Rs11,000 has been recovered. Police expect to recover the rest. Notably, police had possessed a CCTV footage in the bank. Unfortunately, the CCTV camera was not equipped with the night vision mode.
The footage was blurred. While scanning the blurred footage, police saw three shadows entering the bank through toilet. The accused tried in vain to open the locker. They fled with Rs16,700 in one-rupee coins kept in the drawer of the counter. A case was filed against for theft (section 378) and house break-in (section 445) of the IPC, said police.
