In a setback for Congress, Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) party chief Prakash Ambedkar on Tuesday said that his party will not form an alliance with Congress in Maharashtra for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The talks with Congress ended without any conclusive outcome, Ambedkar said, adding, he will field candidates from all 48 seats, Times Now reported.

As per reports, Ambedkar had demanded 23 seats including crucial Baramati, Yavatmal and Nanded, leaving the rest for Congress and Sharad Pawar-led NCP.  The Congress failed "to stitch an alliance" with BBM as they found the demand "unacceptable".

The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi  (VBA) led by Ambedkar is in alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Maharashtra. However, as per sources, the NCP was not ready to have Owaisi on board as its partner. Two sitting AIMIM MLAs in Maharashtra Assembly are likely to contest general elections from the stateAmbedkar and Owaisi are likely to announce candidates on Friday.
