VARANASI: Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor and Stop Sale Acid campaigner, on Monday said that the attack may have scarred her face but not her dreams.
“He threw acid on my face, not on my dreams. He changed my face, not my dreams,” said Laxmi while addressing IIT-BHU’s three-day techno-management fest — Technex-19 — that concluded on Sunday.
In her motivation speech under Think Talk event of Thechnex, Laxmi said, “I am not a victim, I am a survivor. The man who threw acid on face will cover his face, I won’t”
Narrating her story, she said that she was stalked on her way to her tuition by a person, who was twice her age and was persistent on marrying her.
Angry over her lack of interest in him as Laxmi had refused his advances, he attacked her along with his two others accomplices. She was rescued by a taxi driver and taken to Safdarjang Hospital in Delhi. She had to undergo nine major operations to reduce the pain of the burns.
“After facing rejection from people, I applied for job and dreamt new dreams,” said Laxmi, a native of Delhi, adding that she started he organisation and decided that she would help other women like her.
