The second Water Conference being organised by Kozhikode-based Green Care Mission will be held on March 23.

The conference, organised on the occasion of World Water Day, will be held on a boat that will travel through the Chaliyar taking the participants to relevant spots and discussing the issues there. The main aim of the conference is to enhance water literacy among the masses.

“We had a serious flood in August. Now we are facing a drought within six months. There is something really wrong with the situation,” said K.T. Abdul Nassar, coordinator of Green Care Mission. “Then water was taking away our land into the river. Now we need to pump water from the river for our daily use as the wells have gone dry,” he added.

The conference will be led by environmentalist and water specialist Hamidali Vazhakkad. A maximum of 50 participants will embark on a voyage through the Chaliyar in the after noon after a briefing in the forenoon.

Representatives from the Indian Institute of Management- Kozhikode, National Institute of Technology- Kozhikode, Centre for Water Resources Development and Management, Haritha Keralam Mission, environmentalists, students and some social media activists are expected to be part of the conference.

The first Water Conference was held in March 2018 with the help of NIT-C and the campaign was along the Iruvazhinjipuzha and Chaliyar. This year, the focus is on the Chaliyar.
