Rana Daggubati recently played Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in the two-part biopic of legendary actor-politician Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR). Despite the debacle of both the parts at the box-office, Rana’s pitch-perfect performance of CM Naidu won him laurels across the board.

In his recent interview to Times of India, Rana opened up about the experience of playing a real life character. “I have never played someone in my life. And I went on to portray the character of the CM of Andhra Pradesh! I have been seeing him for the last 20 years on television and news, and to play him on screen was very exciting. Meeting him for the role made my job easier. When the person you are playing tells you how to do his role, doesn’t it get easier,” Rana was quoted saying.

Asked if the experience of playing a politician inspired him to join politics in the future, he said: “There is a lot of drama in politics and I could use that in my films. I like politics for its dramas. I have no interest in it otherwise.” He also refused to comment on other actors joining politics, adding that anyone is free to join politics. In order to play the role of Chandrababu Naidu, Rana shed a lot of weight and had a lean frame.

Rana is currently busy wrapping up work on his upcoming forest-based trilingual film, Haathi Mere Saathi, which is being directed by Prabhu Solomon.
