Success has started to come: Carey

Though the Indian team is reeling under two successive defeats, bowling coach B. Arun pointed to the brighter side and said, “I am happy it has happened now. It throws open a lot of factors where we can improve before the World Cup.”

‘Learning experience’

Elaborating on the point, he said, “Definitely, there are certain areas we need to address, both in bowling and batting.

“We have to stay positive irrespective of whatever has happened. It’s a great learning experience from the way series has gone.”

Speaking to mediapersons on the eve of India’s final One-day International, against Australia, before the World Cup, Arun reflected on the team’s series-levelling defeat on Sunday night.

“We did not bowl as well we had planned for him (Ashton Turner). I am sure we’ll do well if a similar situation arises.

“We had plans ready. I am not going to give excuses. Dew was a part of the game. You have to accept and try to overcome the situation.”

Upbeat

Wicketkeeper Alex Carey, formerly Australian rule footballer, was far more upbeat when asked about the team’s preparedness before the series-decider.

“We’ve been working hard in the past 12-18 months and there are some successes starting to come our away.

“We have tomorrow to focus on, and we’ve really confident about it. It is pressure-cricket and I’m really looking forward to it,” said the opener for South Australia and Adelaide Strikers but playing the role in the middle-order in the ODI squad.

“I’ve really enjoyed my role batting down the middle or lower order.

“Obviously, the scoreboard will dictate my role in the game, if it’s trying to set up a target or try and get the side over the line.”
