Noida removes 1,500 posters, banners in city
Meenakshi Sinha | TNN | Mar 11, 2019, 08:19 ISTNOIDA: In a massive drive, the Noida Authority pulled down over 1,500 hoardings, posters, banners and wall paintings of political parties, as well as politically motivated messages and advertisements, across the city, soon after the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates on Sunday.
The drive, which began as soon as the poll dates were announced, was premeditated and well-organised. “We had been waiting for the announcement of election dates and implementation of the model code of conduct. We were ready with all necessary equipment and manpower to carry out the drive,” said Rajeev Tyagi, general manager, Noida Authority.
Over 200 labourers used 40 tractor trolleys, 10 small cranes and other equipment in the drive, which was carried out on the directive of district magistrate B N Singh. “Over 1,500 big and small posters, banners, wall paintings, political and religious messages were removed from areas such as Nithari road, sectors 1, 2, 19 and 27, road between sectors 21 and 25, Bal Bharti School, the road between sectors 143 and 144, the junction between sectors 91 and 136, the canal in Sector 136, Rajnigandha underpass and several other places,” he added.
Similar drives were carried out in Greater Noida and Jewar. “All nodal officers, officials of all three authorities, deputy district officers, police, tehsildars and other municipality and nagar panchayat officials have been directed to ensure implementation of the removal order within the prescribed period of 24 hours, as per the model code. All procedures are being implemented as per the Election Commission of India (ECI),” the district magistate said.
While Section 144 is implemented, all gatherings and political processions have to be conducted with prior permission as per ECI norms. A strict vigil of unauthorised transport of liquor, money, arms and ammunitions has also been put in place, cops said. “We have formed several teams to monitor all movement along these lines and will be taking strict action against violators,” SSP Vaibhav Krishna said.
