Mumbai: The IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad potentially suffered a big blow ahead of the forthcoming Indian Premier League, 2019 which is scheduled to start on March 23 as their skipper Kane Williamson suffered a shoulder injury in the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh.
Kane Williamson was taken to the hospital for getting a scan done on his injured shoulder and the captain did not come out to field in Bangladesh’s second innings in the ongoing Test match in Wellington. Also a Kiwi skipper, Williamson sustained the injury on the third day of the Test match when he fell while awkwardly trying to stop the ball at gully position.
While batting during the first session on the fourth day of the Test match, Williamson was struggling with his left shoulder and the physio came out to look after him a couple of times. The skipper kept on taking his hand off the bat upon missing contact with the ball a couple of times. Williamson managed to score 74, lasting nearly three hours at the crease.
He added 172 runs for the third wicket with Ross Taylor as New Zealand put up 432 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets in response to Bangladesh’s first innings score of 211. In Williamson’s absence, Tim Southee led the Kiwi team when they came out to bowl while Peter Bocock was fielding in Williamson’s place.
Kane Williamson bagged the coveted Orange Cap in 2018. Williamson led from the front with the bat, finishing as the leading run-scorer of the tournament. His calm and composed leadership was so influential that comparisons were made with MS Dhoni’s coolness on the field. The fact that he led SRH to the finals last year led to the management handing over the captaincy to Kane again. With Warner, Bairstow and Williamson forming the top 3, SRH have one of the best top orders of the tournament.
