MUMBAI: A Saki Naka businessman died on Saturday, around 50 hours after a hair transplantation, raising doubts on safety in undergoing such procedures. While autopsy findings are inconclusive, doctors aware of the case said the death was likely due to a strong allergic reaction.
Shrawan Kumar Chaudhary, 43, reached Powai's Hiranandani Hospital on Friday with breathing difficulty and swelling on his face and throat. TOI has learnt that the doctor-on-duty identified the signs as that of a life-threatening allergic reaction called anaphylaxis.
Sources said it had put Chaudhary in shock. A cardiologist too was summoned to revive his heart, but he passed away on Saturday around 6.45am. Police learnt that Chaudhary was implanted with 9,500 hair grafts in a procedure that lasted over 15 hours.
