Coimbatore: A day after the announcement of poll dates for the 17th Lok Sabha election, the district administration has directed civic body officials to remove posters, hoardings, banners and wall paintings of all political parties across the district as the model code of conduct kicks in.

“We have directed officials from town panchayats, village panchayats, three municipalities and corporation to act immediately. Besides, 90 teams have been formed to monitor expenditure of political parties,” an official involved in the process said, adding, “we have planned to complete the removal process within 48 hours.”

Works to remove political posters and banners have already commenced at 2,000 places including Hosur Road and near district collectorate, another officer said.

Meanwhile, there is a provision under the guidelines of Election Commission of India, in which political parties could do wall painting in Village panchayats after obtaining No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from both returning officer of the constituency and owner of the building, said the official.
