Australia have bounced back in the 5-match ODI series against India with a bang. Aussies who were 2-0 down have displayed amazing skills to level the series 2-2. At Mohali, batting first India rode on openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma’s powerful knocks to post 358. India got off a good start with the ball as well, as pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar sent back Aussie skipper Aaron Finch. However, Aussies fought back in stunning fashion thanks to the rest of their batsmen.
Here are the statistical highlights of the game:
Rohit Sharma, who was going through a rough patch, returned back to form and hit 95 in the 4th ODI, ending his drought. With this, the Indian opener also joined South African Hashim Amla in fewest innings to 3,000 ODI runs at home. Rohit and Amla are tied with 57 innings. Interestingly, Rohit is ahead of Kohli in the list who took 69 innings to reach the landmark.
359 – It was the highest run-chase for any team in world against India on their own home soil.
Australia chased the biggest total in only 47.5 overs. It was the fifth highest successful run-chase in the ODIs.
Leggie Yuzvendra Chahal conceded 80 runs in India’s loss and it is the 3rd most expensive figures by a spinner in ODIs in India.
This is the first time in 31 ODIs since 2017 when Virat Kohli was dismissed for a single digit. In the 4th ODI, Kohli scored only 7 runs.
No 11 batsman Jasprit Bumrah joined former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad to hit six off the first they have faced. Venky, who batted at No 11, did it against Australia in Nairobi.
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have now scored 4526 runs as a pair, which is the fourth highest in ODIs. They are behind West Indian Gordon Greenidge- Desmond Haynes (5150 runs), Australian’s Adam Gilchrist-Matthew Hayden (5150) and India’s Sachin Tendulkar-Sourav Ganguly (6609). In the 4th ODI, Dhawan and Sharma forged a 193-run partnership.
Shikhar Dhawan, who was out of form from quite a few matches, returned back to form with 143. It is the fifth highest individual score against Australia. It is also his career-best.
