Cape Town - Essex County Cricket Club have announced that former South African fast bowler Andre Nel has been appointed as their new assistant head coach and bowling coach.
According to the English county's website, Nel will join the coaching staff from Easterns following a lengthy and thorough recruitment process.
The 41-year-old will join the coaching staff from Easterns and will work alongside head coach Anthony McGrath.
Nel, who was named the South African Cricketer of the Year in both 2004 and 2005, played 36 Tests, 79 ODIs and 2 T20Is for South Africa from 2001-2008.
Nel played for Essex following the 2007 Cricket World Cup - taking 35 wickets across all formats for the club and was awarded his County Cap in 2008.
Since retiring from playing cricket in 2013, Nel has turned his hand to a number of coaching roles.
Since 2016, Nel has also been an Assistant & Bowling Coach at the South African National Cricket Academy during the close season.
Nel is excited about taking this next step in his career and said: "I'm really thrilled to be joining Essex as Assistant Head Coach & Bowling Coach.
"It's a great opportunity and I've only ever heard good things about Anthony McGrath as a coach, and I can't wait to start working alongside him and the rest of the team out in Abu Dhabi this week.
"As a former Essex player I know it's a fantastic Club to be involved with and since leaving I've always followed from afar. I'm really eager to get working with such a talented group of players and contribute to the future success of the Club."
