Bollywood actor and Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother Ishaan Khatter may team up with director Pa Ranjith for his Bollywood debut, a biopic on freedom fighter Birsa Munda. Ishaan made his debut with Karan Johar’s Dhadak opposite Janhvi Kapoor and was also seen in Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds.

A DNA report quoted a source as saying, “Ishaan heard the narration and liked it. He has verbally given his nod to the film. The team is currently working out all the modalities. Once Ishaan gives his go ahead, the movie is expected to go on floors in the next few weeks.” Ranjith had announced the biopic late last year. Ishaan earlier featured as a child actor in the 2005 film Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!.

Ishaan had earlier said his brother Shahid inspired him. “My brother has been working tirelessly all these years and it is only because of his passion for acting. The most invaluable advice he has given me is to be honest to my work. He says camera will always capture honest emotions whether or not people see it,” he said.

He had also revealed why he never took a formal training in acting, “I did not want to take any formal training in acting, it was a conscious decision. I wanted to learn as much as I could but I did not want to get used to a rigid format or technique of acting. I wanted to be able to observe people, things freely and have a clean state, have a fresh perspective and be moulded on the job. I felt it was important to stay raw and to my good fortune Majidi sir wanted someone who was untrained.”

Birsa Munda, a freedom fighter from Jharkhand, fought for the rights of his tribesmen during the 1890s. He started a revolt against the British government in 1894 to remove the tax arrears for plantation farmers.
