Indore: In a bid to help women fight back domestic violence and harassment, an awareness event was organised under domestic workers movement at St Raphael’s HS School on Sunday. Around 200 domestic workers participated in the event. Sr Rosina Joseph welcomed the guests.
Chief guest of the programme was Town Inspector (TI) of Women Police Anita Derewal from Palasia police station. She addressed quoting importance of self-protection. “We generally live with a misconception that we are not strong enough to fight violence, but that is not true, the law helps us fight them,” Anita said. She cited features of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.
Special guest advocate Shanno Shagupta Khan explained about the procedure of filing a complaint under the act. “You can file an application in case of harassment or file it through a protection officer as well,” she said. Shanno talked about how the law protects them even if their husband is threatening them.
“You need to act if you are being harassed, hurt or injured by anyone, because your action will give your children a protection and further help in building in a better community,” she said. Advocate Gitanjali Chaurasia, advocate Anjum Parekh, Sr Preeti Thomas and Sr Valsa Joseph were other guests at the event.
Participants sang a song ‘Beti hun main Beta Tera Banungi’ and young girls performed a beautifully choreographed dance on the same. Vote of thanks was given by Francesina Nelson.
