The roll on is a natural composition of essential oils and costs Rs 10 per use
Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) have developed a period pain relief roll on - Sanfe - to relieve period pain faced by women during their menstruation cycles. Two third-year BTech students - Archit Agarwal and Harry Sehrawat - decided to find a solution to the problem when one of their friends faced extreme difficulty because of menstrual pain while taking semester exams.
The roll on is a natural composition of active essential oils, which provides a cooling sensation when applied on cramp affected areas. The product is medically tested and FDA approved. It costs Rs 169 and can be used for three period cycles.
"We want to empower women by providing them innovative and affordable solutions to deal with daily life problems and the relief roll on is a contribution towards making women's life easy by providing them an affordable solution to one of the most common problems that they face on regular basis," said Archit Agarwal, co-founder of Sanfe, who is pursuing BTech in Textile Technology at IIT Delhi.
Srinivasan Venkataraman, professor, department of design, IIT Delhi said, "Women comprise close to 50% of our population and a significant portion of this population experiences pain and cramps during the menstrual period. Therefore, this becomes an important problem to solve."
The researchers worked on the product for as many as seven months at IIT Delhi and later collaborated with AIIMS, Delhi for medical approvals.
"It was difficult to produce a natural solution. We did a 24-hour long research for almost 7 months before we could finalise the composition of oils. It was important to provide an effective composition and make it affordable for women to use it on a large scale. But, the genuine intent to solve the period pain problem of women led us to a unique composition that got approved by FDA," added Agarwal.
