Two men held for duping job seekers in Ghaziabad

Two men from Delhi, who were running a consultancy firm in Kaushambi, were arrested on Sunday night for allegedly duping dozens of job aspirants by promising placements abroad. Police said the duo was indulged in such instances since 2011 and one of their cases was also investigated by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police.

The two men were identified as Manoj Kumar Naik and his accomplice Jasveer Singh, both residents of Geeta Colony in Delhi. Singh came to Delhi from Jalandhar city of Punjab, the police said, adding that the two were arrested from near EDM Mall in Kaushambi.

The suspects had opened an office in Kaushambi last year and duped dozens of job aspirants of anything between ₹70,000 to ₹1 lakh each on pretext of providing jobs abroad.

“Manoj has been involved in such cases since 2011. They opened a firm named Elite Core Solutions in Kaushambi and would interview placement seekers. Thereafter, they fled shutting down the office. They had this unique modus operandi to open offices and to cheat people. They had opened similar offices in Delhi as well in the past,” Aparna Gautam, assistant superintendent of police (Indirapuram), said.

“Once the complaints started pouring in, they used to close down their offices and move to new location,” Gautam added. Police officials said that the two men last year had opened a similar office with name of ‘Eagle Impex’ in Bhikaji Kama Place in Delhi and later opened a new office in Kaushambi.

The men would interview job aspirants, and got their health checkup conducted in order to make them trust that they would be provided jobs, said police.

They added that once victims paid them in cash, they would flee to a new location. The police said that they have duped around two dozens such people in Ghaziabad and an FIR for cheating and forgery was lodged at Indirapuram police station in 2018.

The police have recovered 27 passports and a car from the possession of the two suspects.
