Man hit by car on West Gate Freeway, Burnley Tunnel closed
The entry to the Burnley Tunnel from the West Gate Freeway has been closed after a man was hit and killed by a truck.
The man was hit on the West Gate Freeway just after the Power Street exit. Initial reports that the collision occurred in the tunnel itself were later corrected by emergency services.
Police say the man ran onto the freeway and was hit. The truck driver stopped to help.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed it received a call to the tunnel, which carries traffic from the West Gate Freeway to the Monash Freeway, at 9.25 Monday morning. Initial reports suggested the man was in his 30s.
All city-bound traffic on the West Gate is being diverted at Power Street. Delays are building quickly, VicRoads say. Drivers are advised to leave the freeway at Todd Road, Montague Street or Kings Way.
It is not known when the freeway will reopen.
More to come.
